Incident Details: Police Officer Patrick Melia, 32, was a 2-year veteran of the Chicago Police Department, assigned to the 20th Precinct.On April 27, 1910, Officer Melia was on patrol at the Sante Fe Line, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad yards at 49th Street and Lawndale Avenue.  The officer spotted four thieves — Steven Zacek, Joseph Pribyia, Stephen Orth, and Joseph Flash — robbing a train car.  One of the offenders drew a shotgun and fatally wounded the officer.  Officer Melia died instantly.Steven Zecek hanged himself in the 19th precinct.  Joseph Pribyia was sentenced to 25 years in prison.  Stephen Orth was found guilty of manslaughter.  Joseph Flash was found dead in Iowa.Officer Melia was laid to rest in Ohio.  The shotgun blast struck

    • Kurt Conroy, I’d love to have a picture if you can send me a copy. Patrick or Pakie is my grand mothers brother, he was the first family in his family that came to America. I have the honor of being named after him. He’s buried in St Joseph Cemetery in Cincinnati, Ohio
