Incident & Biographic Details

Field Training Officer Titus Theopsy Moore, Star #16838, aged 46 years, was a 14 year, 9 month, 8 day veteran of the Chicago Police Department, assigned to the 5th District – Calumet.

On November 9, 2020, at 10:32 p.m., Officer Moore was placed on the “Medical Roll“ for flu-like symptoms after he began experiencing minor symptoms of COVID-19. He would soon test positive for COVID-19 and continue quarantine at his residence. On November 24, 2020, his cousin, Angelica Green called 911 to report that she had not heard from her cousin for two days. Beat 633 responded to his residence, located on the 9400 block of South Wabash Avenue, and observed Officer Moore through a window laying on the floor unresponsive. CFD was summoned and Battalion Chief #459, Engine #42 and Ambulance #37 responded, making a forced entry. Officer Moore was pronounced dead on scene at 11:46 a.m. by Dr. Tataris from The University of Chicago Hospital. On December 3, 2020, Superintendent David O’Neal Brown announced that Officer Moore’s death would be classified as in the line of duty. On December 8, 2020, the Cook County Medical Examiner ruled the death of Officer Moore to be from COVID-19. Officer Moore was the fourth Chicago Police Officer to die in the line of duty from COVID-19.

Field Training Officer Titus Theopsy Moore, born September 5, 1974, received his Probationary Appointment to the Chicago Police Department on February 21, 2006, attended the Jackson Street Police Academy, and was issued Star #14480. On September 30, 2010, he was issued Patrolman Star #16838, after reporting his previous star missing. On February 16, 2014, he was promoted to the rank of Field Training Officer on February 3, 2017. He earned 1 Superintendent’s Award of Valor, 1 Lifesaving Award, 1 Police Officer of the Month Award, 3 Department Commendations, 1 Field Training Officer Service Award, 1 Honorable Mention Ribbon Award, 1 Unit Meritorious Performance Award, 4 Attendance Recognition Awards, The 2019 Crime Reduction Award, The 2009 Crime Reduction Award, The NATO Summit Service Award, 1 Presidential Election Deployment Award, 50 Honorable Mentions and 5 Complimentary Letters during his career.

Officer Moore was waked at Leak & Sons Funeral Home located at 7338 South Cottage Grove Ave. His funeral mass was also held at Leak & Sons Funeral Home. He was laid to rest on December 8, 2020 in Forest Home Cemetery, 863 Desplaines Avenue, Forest Park, Illinois.

Officer Moore was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police. He was survived by his father, Theopsy (CPD) and two sisters: Thea.
