Patrolman Peter H. Ostiller, Star #3376, aged 30 years, was a 3 year, 4 month, 7 day veteran of the Chicago Police Department, assigned to District 13, 17th Precinct – Maxwell.
On June 12, 1918, Officer Ostiller was on foot patrol when a vehicle on 12th (Roosevelt Road) and Halsted Streets hit him. The driver, Henry Stephan of the Commonwealth Edison Company, swerved to avoid colliding with a streetcar and made a sharp turn. After making the sharp turn he struck Officer Ostiller. Officer Ostiller was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries the same day.
Officer Ostiller was waked at his residence located at 3955 West 12th Street. He was laid to rest on June 14, 1918 in Waldheim Cemetery, 1400 Des Plaines Avenue, Forest Park, Illinois. His grave is located in the Progressive Order of the West Section.
